Now it is time to bring it all together and see how it can guide us towards some prioritised improvement actions.


The action plan can now be built as follows:

For any case of a vital sign being relevant but not measured, we need to build measurement capability. In some instances, this can also be a manual tracker for a limited period, just to help quantify the impact of the impediments.

For all cases of a vital sign being relevant and measured, we should capture the data in the form of aggregate (average) current performance and the target. Targets should ideally be the customer’s expectation, but in the absence of objective data on customer expectations, they can also be the service levels agreed within the business.

Of these measured vital signs, for all cases of the values being short of the target, we need countering actions for each impediment that is creating a negative impact. For information on typical countering actions for each of the impediments click here
