Open Orbit’s Diagnostic Workbench standardises the diagnostic process, providing accessible and reusable corporate memory; it improves how people collaborate and replicate success. The metrics data model in the Diagnostic Workbench becomes the ideal place to track benefits realisation, thus establishing a strong and on-going link with the business case.

The algorithm powering ‘Mentored Thinking’ uses the tagging for industry and process provided by the user, along with the process modelling and metric data entered into the Diagnostic Workbench by the user. These factors determine the most relevant suggestions at any given stage in the project. The tool also uses this data to determine collaboration opportunities by connecting users who are involved in similar problems. The privacy and confidentiality of users and their project-specific data is managed tightly throughout the process.

The live Open Knowledge Base provides an open encyclopaedia of context-sensitive insights, best practices, diagnostic aids and collaboration opportunities at your fingertips.

The Open Knowledge Base is built using Wiki technology and is open to contribution from users. ‘OO Suggestions’ are the basic unit of content and provide definitions, insights and references for further reading. ‘OO Suggestions’ can be for metrics, causes, or solutions. They can also be for techniques, methods and technologies. They are chained together in a diagnostic framework consisting of symptoms as seen through metrics, which could be due to causes, addressed by solutions and measured for success through metrics again.

Open Orbit provides a set of reports which are useful to analyse the implications of data entered, and decide on next steps. They also double up as a useful way of reporting progress. This is a fundamental shift in the approach to status reporting – away from being based on input or effort expended, and towards being based on outcomes and insights generated.
